The Investigation of Graves of Antandros Antique City by Magnetic Method Master’s Dissertation

2008

The aim of this study is to investigate the antique structures which have been buried under the ground by using magnetic method in the necropole area of Antandros Ancient city, located in Altınoluk, Balıkesir and which has an importance about ıts historical and archaeological past.Data processing techniques such as filtering, analitic countunations, derivative methods have been applied. Euler deconvolution and Talwani method have been used for modelling process on magnetic data.

According the data processing results, modelling results of this study and the distrubution and elongation of the graves under the ground, main anomaly can be seen between 25 th and 50th meters along the horizontal axis on the magnetic map. Becouse of this, it could be thought that distribution of the graves could finish before 25th meter and probable antique structures under the ground could be seen all together. On the other hand, it can be thought that there could be antique wall between these meters, which is seperating the necropole and Roman villas settelment, considering the antique way directed from west to east which is found by archaeologic excavations before.

According to our results, test excavations offered that the test excavation between the 30 th and 50 th meters on horizantal axis, directed to the north east-south west, which has 20 meters length and 2 meters width and 1.5 meters depth.
