Another area where excavation works are carried out is the northern and southern parts of Çanakkale road on the plains just west of Kaletaşı Hill. The studies in this area showed that the architectural remnants started about 20 cm below the surface.
A Byzantine period stratum that was largely destroyed during the agricultural ploughs forms the first cultural layer. Especially on the south of the Çanakkale road, three Byzantine structures were found and on the eastside of them a Byzantine cemetery was unearthed. These dense findings in such a narrow area have brought to mind that they may be the remains of the annexes of a church or a chapel. As the sea level is very close on the southern part of the road, it was not possible to go deeper to the lower stratum.
